We are thrilled to be perhaps the only North American retailer to offer the rare and premium Freshwater Pom Pom Crab! It is named for its unique claws, which resemble pom poms or boxing gloves.
These small crabs ship as a .5 to 1 inch diameter young adult and growth will not exceed 1.75 inches in diameter. Their claws are jumbo in proportion, but not nearly as large as fiddler crab claws!
These crabs do best when you supplement their diet with calcium and flakes rich in protein and plant matter. A floor of substrate or bedding is a must.
Great for a community or nano fish aquarium. They do best in tanks with plenty of places that provide shelter, such as aquatic plants and aquarium decorations (driftwood, a plastic castle, etc.).
Each Aquatic Arts brand plants and animals pack comes with a 100% live arrival guarantee, offer of replacement or return of DOAs.
We are quite excited to be perhaps the only national retailer in the United States to offer PomPom Crabs (Ptychognathus barbatus)! * IMPORTANT: These crabs are very small (most will be1 inch or less at time of purchase, but they grow to 1.5 to 1.75 inches), making them primecandidates for nano or mini tanks. *In addition to feeding on particles that collect on fuzzy patches (“pom poms”) on their claws, these algae cleaner crabs feed on biofilm and will also eat high-quality dry foods or granulesrich in plant matter or spirulina. We very occasionally feed them protein-rich snacks such asfrozen bloodworms as well.Their natural habitat is reportedly throughout tropical and sub-tropical regions in Madagascar,Taiwan, and New Caledonia. Unlike most crabs, these are fully aquatic and can stay underwaterindefinitely. However, we recommend keeping the water line low or keeping an aquarium topon your fishtank, as they are occasional escape artists. They do best in tanks with plants (suchas red ludwigia and Marimo Moss Balls) or a decoration that provides shelter and places tohideout, as well as substrate like sand or gravel. They can be kept with some peaceful species of fish, such as Mollies, Platies, Gourami, andEndlers. They can also live with snails (e.g. Ramshorn Snails, Malaysian Trumpet Snails, andAssassin Snails) and large shrimp, like Vampire Shrimp or Flower Shrimp. They can typically livewith dwarf shrimp, such as Bee Shrimp, Crystal Red Shrimp or Crystal Black Shrimp, but there isa small chance that they may attack a slow or sick shrimp. Bettas and large Crayfish (akaCrawfish or Crawdads) can pose a slight risk to small crabs like these.CARE GUIDELINES:- Temperature: 68° - 78° F (20° - 25° C)- pH: 6.2 - 7.2- KH: 1 - 5 dKH- Minimum tank size: 5 gallons- Average adult size: 1 inch (2.5 cm) or less- Average purch
