"Blue Lace" agate from Namibia, Southwest Africa is a variety of banded Chalcedony, a mineral of the Quartz family. It is found in an area where there has been much geological upheaval and the layers of chalcedony seemingly were formed over time from multiple episodes of deposition and dissolution. The chalcedony itself is hard and measures about 6.5–7 on Mohs’s scale of hardness.Lace agate is a variety that exhibits a lace-like pattern with forms such as eyes, swirls, bands or zigzags. This high quality blue lace agate is predominantly creamy light to medium blue, with subtle layers of creamy browns, whites, and grays. Some examples may include clusters of mini-quartz crystals on the outer surfaces. See images above for random examples. Superior material for tumbling and cabbing.
