Wallace Stevens was born in 1879 in Pennsylvania. He spent the majority of his life in Hartford, Connecticut working for an insurance company. While some poets know from an early age that they want to focus on poetry, Wallace published this book, Harmonium, as his very first in 1923 at age 44. Much of it is based on his life in Connecticut and his vacations in Key West, Florida. His poetic reputation grew, and by 1955 he won the Pulitzer Prize for his poetry collection. He died in that year.I hope you enjoy his poetry as much as I do. I’d love to hear your thoughts!Note that I (Lisa Shea) will also soon have an annotated and illustrated version, for those who would enjoy having notes on each poem.
