About the Author FULTON JOHN SHEEN (born Peter John Sheen, May 8, 1895 December 9. 1979) was an American theologian and Archbishop of the Catholic Church. Fulton gained popularity through hosting his late-night radio show, The Catholic Hour, becoming a known voice in the homes of millions from 1930-1950. In 1952, Sheen moved to television with Life is Worth Living and then his own syndicate, The Fulton Sheen Show. Sheen dedicated his life to spread the Word of God, he became an ordained priest of the Diocese of Peoria in 1919. He earned the Cardinal Mercier Prize for International Philosophy in 1923 for his theological contributions and was later appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of New York in 1951. Sheen became the Bishop of Rochester in 1966 and was made Archbishop of the titular see of Newport, Wales before retiring. In 2012 Pope Benedict XVI officially recognized Fulton Sheen's life of "heroic virtue" declaring him Venerable and opening the cause for his Canonization. MATTHEW KELLY was born in Sydney, Australia.
