Hatsuki Murata—Suki for short—has faced tremendous storms in her life. From a difficult childhood to broken marriages to becoming the owner of a struggling restaurant that specialized in Japanese cuisine, Suki asked the same questions you ask: “Why am I here? What is my purpose in life? What am I supposed to do now?” And she often felt that the storms in life were too difficult for her, too strong, and too cruel.Deeply desiring to navigate life successfully, she one day cried out to God. She reconnected with her Japanese heritage and realized that the kokoro, spiritual heart in Japanese, of which her grandfather spoke and the One True God to whom she had prayed were living in her. After much searching, she discovered how to steer her ship in such a way during a storm as to lead her to peaceful waters, full of hope and fulfillment. She was dealing with regret, dealing with guilt and shame, a lack of self-confidence, and a lack of trust. Like you, she faced situations in life where she wasn’t sure which way to go because she couldn’t see clearly. The pounding rain, horrendous thunder, and cracking lightning nearly drowned out all hope for survival. Then something changed. She found strength through adversity. Soon she discovered that she always had a choice, and the first choice was always the most important one. Would she listen to her kokoro? The second question immediately followed the first. Would she face the storm? Suki discovered that listening to her kokoro was the key to wise decision-making. In the process of letting go, she learned to renew her strength and gained the self-confidence and trust to keep going. She learned how to never again allow a storm to threaten her. In this book, she eagerly shares with you how to listen to your own kokoro so that you too can make decisions that result in peace, joy, and hope.
