In Freed To Lead, F3 co-founders Dredd and OBT tell the story of how F3 began on New Year’s Day 2011 at a Charlotte, N.C., middle school and how its dramatic growth showed they had launched something more than just a workout group. Through anecdote and metaphor, they show how F3’s Three Fs – Fitness, Fellowship, and Faith – cure the “SadClown Syndrome” that plagues too many men and offer a solution to our society’s leadership vacuum. About the Author Dave Redding practices law in Charlotte, N.C. From 1985 to 1994, he was an active-duty Army Infantry and Special Forces Officer. He is a graduate of the Army Airborne School, Ranger School, Special Forces Qualification Course, and SERE. He is also a graduate of French Commando School. He has a wonderful wife and three lovely daughters to keep his testosterone in check. In 2011, he helped start the men's workout and community leadership group known as F3. Since its modest founding in a grade school parking lot, F3 has expanded to a bunch of other parking lots. Known by the F3 Name of Dredd, he is currently the Nant'an of F3Nation. Tim Whitmire is a former journalist, primarily with The Associated Press, where he reported from Rhode Island, New York City, Kentucky, and North Carolina. In recent years, he has served in business development and executive roles for several firms in the middle-market finance space. Known in F3Nation as OBT, he and Dredd started F3 in 2011; he currently serves as Chief Weasel Shaker for F3Nation. A native of California, he attended college at Harvard and is running marathons (or more) in every state. He, his wife, and three children live in Charlotte.
