Product Description Here is a collection that reveals what happens when skill meets substantial talent. And what, precisely, is it that happens? The unpredictable—from poem to poem, line to line, a cascade of surprises. Mischief, memory, dream and lusty desire come into play here, and one recurring feature: in virtuoso displays of heady language, the blood and bone of the animal and natural world. About the Author Carol Potter grew up on a dairy farm in NW Connecticut; she's a Vermont resident, formerly of Los Angeles after years in Western Massachusetts-hence the variety of landscapes and creatures in these pages. Along with the Pacific Coast Poetry Series award from Beyond Baroque, she received a Creation Grant from the Vermont Arts Council in 2019, and was awarded the 2014 FIELD Poetry Prize for her book, Some Slow Bees, and the 1998 Cleveland State Poetry Center award as well as The Balcones Award for Short History of Pets. Other awards include a Pushcart Award and residencies at Yaddo, MacDowell, The Fundación Valparaíso, and Millay Colony of the Arts. Publications include poems in The American Poetry Review, Poetry, Green Mountains Review, Hotel Amerika, Sinister Wisdom, The Kenyon Review, Hayden's Ferry Review. Potter teaches for Antioch University's Low-Residency MFA Program in Los Angeles and she also conducts private poetry workshops.
