Product Description Have you ever heard of a married couple fighting in a war, together? Marriage is hard enough when dealing with the normal, everyday scenarios that life gives you. Imagine being thrown into a battle zone with your spouse. How would your marriage fare? Would it make you stronger? Would it bring you closer together or further apart? Heidi Radkiewicz' Honeymoon in Baghdad explores the challenges and joys of a new marriage beset by the horrors of war. National Guard recruits, Heidi and Jake, learned that they were both shipping off to Iraq mere weeks after tying the knot. In the months that followed, intense heat, mind-numbing boredom, and the ever-present danger of roadside bombs and murderous insurgents forged this pair into a team that can take on the world. Review "Really enjoyed the book. There was lots happening in it. Very informative on information and enjoyable to read. Nice character blended well with the story." -Lisa Houston, NetGalley "This was a wonderful book and a quick read! I enjoyed witnessing the transformation of Heidi from a timid girl, afraid of committing to anything, to a courageous woman, ready to commit to a loving relationship and service to our country. As a civilian, this was a fascinating look at military life overseas. Not only the harrowing accounts of action, but also the humorous descriptions of a soldier's downtime as well. This book is highly recommended!" -Heather, GoodReads " Heidi's writing style had me captivated with each turn of the page. I never knew if she was going to have me laughing hysterically, or on the edge of the couch in anticipation off some horrible encounter. The personal details she shared of her thoughts and experiences were extremely enlightening. She opened my eyes to how I can respond to, and help, the loved ones I have that suffer from PTSD. Thank you so much Heidi for sharing so deeply!" -Mark P Hunt, GoodReads "I am so glad this book was available through Kindle and that Heidi published her love story. I'm grateful for a few reasons for this thoughtful, well-paced read: 1. It's the first time I've read from the perspective of a female soldier and Iraqi war veteran. I feel like I understand just a little bit more how and why PTSD would manifest and how assimilating into civilian life would be so difficult when you don't have a rifle strapped to your back. At the same time, it's because I'm married to my best friend as well that I could perfectly relate to how wonderful it would be to spend your first year married EVEN in Baghdad, as long as you're with your best friend. 2. It reminded me so much of WifeReflections.com posts - that is, they're honest, they're real, but they leave the reader with lessons that should encourage those married or single to keep showing up in your marriage and believing that the best is yet to come. With this book, it's like Heidi wrote her own WifeReflections and it was affirming to read many of the same lessons in her book manifested in my life, too. 3. It was short but well written and kept me engaged. I'd read another book of Heidi's, but maybe this time about how she navigates motherhood with her husband, Wyatt, her daughter, and American amenities by her side - perhaps comparing it to what she saw overseas. Regardless of what she writes in the future, I'm certainly subscribed to read it :)" -Ania Ray, GoodReads
