I Am Different, Just Like You! is a creative non-fiction children's book that uses fun illustrations and real photos to explain what Down syndrome is and the remarkable things that people with Down syndrome are capable of doing. It showcases a little girl named Adella who, just like other little girls, loves to run, play, sing, and dance. But there are also things that make Adella different. One difference is that she has Down syndrome. As she explains what Down syndrome is, readers will find that there are things that make them different too, just like Adella. Discusses what Down syndrome is including cells, fetal development, and chromosomes Showcases various role models who also have Down syndrome, including Noelia Garella, John Cronin, Madeline Stuart, Frank Stephens, Lauren Potter, Melissa Reilly, Eli Reimer, and Isabella Springmuhl Includes resources for parents and teachers Review "In this lovingly produced book, Rebecca DalMolin aptly demonstrates that children with Down syndrome, like her daughter Adella, are just like the rest of us in so many ways...The book is illustrated with a clever montage of text, bright photos and emotive drawings...For those seeking to educate children about Down syndrome, this is a valuable resource. The charming and irresistible illustrations alone are worth the price of admission." - BlueInk Review From the Author Adella is my daughter, and I know firsthand how difficult it can be to explain what Down syndrome is, especially to other children. I hope that this book will provide its readers with the necessary information to have an open and productive discussion about Down syndrome and how to interact with someone different than themselves. Despite their differences, all children have one thing in common--the desire to be loved, included, and heard. Just like you! About the Author Rebecca DalMolin received her BA in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona, where her passion for children's literature ignited. After her daughter was diagnosed with Down syndrome, she was inspired to use the power of books to advocate for those with disabilities while teaching others about inclusion and acceptance. She lives in Southeast Arizona with her hunky husband and spunky kids, where they share their home with ten chickens, three dogs, a couple of barn cats, far too many cows, and not nearly enough horses. When she isn't writing, you can find her chasing her three little hooligans, opening gates for her favorite cowboy, or eating her secret stash of chocolate.
