In the Fairy Tales Series Volume III, we explore the tale of "Thomas the Rhymer." This book discusses the different kinds of tales that developed in the oral tradition and what differentiates them as genres. The origin and development of Thomas' tale is discussed, before moving into a discussion on shamanic elements in ancient European mythic belief. The continuance of shamanic practice in the European folk tradition into the Early Modern Era is explored, as well as how these elements are demonstrated in this tale. The second half of the book is the author's retelling of the story. And, the entire volume is richly illustrated throughout.
