About Heart Of Darkness

About the Author Joseph Conrad (December 1857 – August 1924) was a Polish-British writer, regarded as one of the greatest novelists to write in the English language. Though he did not speak English fluently until his twenties, he came to be regarded a master prose stylist who brought a non-English sensibility into English literature. He wrote stories and novels, many with a nautical setting, that depict trials of the human spirit in the midst of what he saw as an impassive, inscrutable universe. Conrad is considered a literary impressionist by some and an early modernist by others, though his works also contain elements of 19th-century realism. Product Description Chiltern Publishing creates the most beautiful editions of the world’s finest literature. Your favorite classic titles in a way you have never seen them before; the tactile layers, fine details and beautiful colors of these remarkable covers make these titles feel extra special and will look striking on any shelf. Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness is the story of an English seaman, Charles Marlow, who is hired by a Belgian company to captain a steamer up river through the African interior. Widely regarded as a critique of European colonial rule in Africa, it has endured to stand as a Modernist masterpiece.
