About Astrophysics For Young People In A Hurry

Product Description Neil deGrasse Tyson’s #1 New York Times best-selling guide to the cosmos, adapted for young readers. From the basics of physics to big questions about the nature of space and time, celebrated astrophysicist and science communicator Neil deGrasse Tyson breaks down the mysteries of the cosmos into bite-sized pieces. Astrophysics for Young People in a Hurry describes the fundamental rules and unknowns of our universe clearly―and with Tyson’s characteristic wit, there’s a lot of fun thrown in, too. This adaptation by Gregory Mone includes full-color photos, infographics, and extra explanations to make even the trickiest concepts accessible. Building on the wonder inspired by outer space, Astrophysics for Young People in a Hurry introduces an exciting field and the principles of scientific inquiry to young readers. 40 color illustrations From School Library Journal Gr 3–7-In this children's adaptation of the 2017 Astrophysics for People in a Hurry Tyson introduces young readers to the creation of the universe and cosmic discoveries. He also discusses other related topics including dark matter, dark energy, and the periodic table of elements alongside plenty of personal anecdotes from his life. Chapter headings such as "How to Communicate with Aliens" will engage young readers. Dark-colored text boxes featuring white text highlight key information and interesting stories (including one on how Tycho Brahe lost his nose in a duel). In another such text box, Tyson mentions he was "warned that it would be unwise to introduce so many names and terms to young readers" in regards to the many names of matter, and then proceeds to briefly describes quarks and leptons. While the text is geared towards students, the content is still detailed and comprehensive. Tyson's dry sense of humor appears throughout. Images and diagrams are included over the course of the book, which concludes with a short glossary and an index. VERDICT Upper elementary or middle school students with an interest in the universe would be well served by this text, which offers an accessible overview of the topic while also inspiring curiosity.-Maren Ostergard, King County Library System, Issaquah, WA From the Back Cover Praise for Neil deGrasse Tyson's #1 New York Times best-selling guide to the cosmos, Astrophysics for People in a Hurry "Grappling with the scope of the universe…is no simple endeavor, but in this tidy overview, Tyson succeeds with seeming effortlessness."–San Francisco Chronicle "With wry humor, keen vision, and abundant humanity, Neil deGrasse Tyson distills the big questions of space, time, and reality into short, insightful chapters."–Discover "A winner that every astronomy enthusiast should have on the bookshelf!"–David J.
