As in I Spy Gold Challenger (1998) and I Spy Extreme Challenger (2000), this book draws from the original I Spy volumes and recycles 12 colorful, double-page photographs, one for every month of the year. These large, highly detailed photos are paired with new rhymes that challenge children to look and find different objects from the original offerings that are perhaps more difficult to spot. In an appended section, Marzollo shows children how to create their own riddle rhymes, pointing out ways to recreate the rhythm (waltz time, Sweet Betsy from Pike, or rap) and the rhyme scheme.
