10.5 Times New Roman font, 709 pages. By capturing the original spellings, line breaks, page breaks, and printer errors, this book attempts to give the reader an idea of what it felt like to read this book at the time of its printing in 1526. The size of the original Tyndale New Testament was a tiny 3.74” x 5.7.” Printing limitations required a slightly larger volume of 4.2” x 6.1”, but it is very close in size. The original book had very large margins, but we reduced the margins to allow for larger type. This book differs from the original in that it substitutes Times New Roman (with very slight modification) for the original black letter font. We tidied up the manuscript a bit – using consistent header formats, traditional drop caps with the first word in small caps, a consistent left edge and such, without changing the text in any way. We modified the look of the book introductions to work better with the Times New Roman font, but kept the general proportions and spellings. To avoid any potential copyright violations, rather than using the bookplate and book images from the original manuscript, we selected open-access, public domain artwork from the same time period. We created a single original pilcrow similar to the many varied pilcrows in the original manuscript. We typed the manuscript from a facsimile, and each page had to be treated individually. For example, today we are accustomed to seeing identical headers throughout a chapter, but here, each is individual. Is it Paul or Pual on this page? Is it Hebrews, ebrews, or Ebrews? Is there a period after the folio number on this page? Two periods? There is even a Luke header in the Gospel of Mark! Variations of this type can be found throughout the text. William Tyndale’s work represents the very first translation of the original Greek into modern English. It was through this work that many heard the words of the New Testament in English for the very first time. We hope that this volume will help you to experience some of the joy they must have experienced, and we hope that so doing will bring you closer to Our Lord. May God bless your time in His Word.
