About the Author Ruth Luongo has always had a "knack" and love for writing. As a young child she can vividly remember helping her younger sister obtain an "A+" on a book report just by reading the front and back flaps of the book. She has always known her gift to teach children, and attended Penn State University, but after one year, she chose marriage over a career. Although her desire to teach didn't die, she never regretted her choice to be a wife to a very wonderful man. She and her husband were quickly blessed with children, and Ruth now has the privilege to teach their five children at home. Beautiful, Big and Bright: The Journey of Sunny Sunflower Seed was birthed out of Ruth's love for the Sunflower and a promise that was made to her one day. She and her husband, Brian moved to Western New York, where her husband attended a Bible School. After a long harsh winter on campus, Ruth attempted to plant some sunflower seeds in a flower barrel outside her apartment building. Unfortunately she did not realize that campus housekeeping transplants Pansies every spring, and she lost her chance to enjoy her sunflowers. Saddened by the circumstance, she prayed and asked the Lord to remove the pain, He responded: "You will have your own garden someday." Overjoyed, she went away with confidence that her promise will someday be fulfilled. The years following have been filled with many gardens, gardens of family, friends, flowers, fruits, vegetables, and more. Over the years she has enjoyed researching and observing the way the plant brings forth its fruit in its season, (Psalm 1:3). One bright spring day she and her daughter, SharonRose, had the opportunity to plant some sunflower seeds together. They greatly enjoyed watching it grow from a little seed to a Beautiful, Big and Bright flower. The excitement that filled their hearts as they watched the sunflower grow is what Ruth hopes to share with all people. This book is filled with godly principles of sowing and reaping as well as vivid descriptions and pictures that will make you feel like you are journeying with Sunny, whether or not you have a garden of your own.
