Review Kathy Troccoli has done it all. She's sung for the pope. She's won three Dove Awards. She's been on television and graced the covers of magazines. She's had 16 No. 1 hits. What's left to do? Well, make another album. Love Has a Name is Troccoli's 12th album, though not necessarily her best. To give credit where credit is due, Troccoli still writes good songs, and her deep alto voice continues to carry the day. Musically, "On My Way to You" has a catchy blues lick and the happy "God Said It," with its bossa nova rhythm, displays Troccoli's ability to handle virtually any musical style. As might be expected, Love Has a Name does not depart appreciably from Troccoli's past recordings. Troccoli is an accomplished singer who obviously knows her audience and therefore makes music for them. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's just that with a veteran artist such as Troccoli, it's fair to ask if she has anything new to say or perhaps new ways to say it. Judging from this album, the answer is no. Interestingly, Troccoli includes a cover of Foreigner's 1988 No. 1 hit, "I Want to Know What Love Is." The result is powerful. One only wishes Troccoli would have reached the same level of intensity with some of the other material here. -- Stephen Huba (c) 2000 CCM Communications, Inc. -- From CCM Magazine -- Subscribe Now!
