Hiding, cowering, drooling, peeing, panting, or shaking can all be signs of insecurity and fear. The fight or flight aspect of survival is alive and well in even our domesticated animals, not just those in the wild. Their native instincts are just under the surface. This could be why our pets often express fear even when living in a familiar and safe household. Early abuse and abandonment are not easy memories to overcome with love and kindness alone.
