These sunglasses are handmade from dumu wood - not bamboo. Dumu wood or "Du Lei", as it is sometimes called, is light in color and comes from subtropical regions such as India or Southeast Asia. Dumu is known to be a strong material, lighter than acetate/plastic yet highly uniform in strength and color. The "natural" color frames are the true color of the wood and the dark brown frames are a stained version of the natural color. The wood is solid - not veneered, and is very light weight, while being more durable than some other types of wood, such as bamboo. The high quality spring loaded stainless steel hinges provide for a comfortable and flexible fit. These sunglasses do run a bit larger than some of our competitor's frames, so they best fit a medium to larger size face. The multi-layered composite resin lenses are 100% polarized, UV400 rated for complete UV (UVA/UVB} protection, are anti-reflective and high definition. The shading of the lenses comfortably blocks the strong sunlight, while not being too dark, making them useful for driving under lower light conditions. The lenses come in two base colors - grey and brown and are not mirrored. The three mirrored versions have a red, blue or green revo mirrored coating over the grey base lenses. The natural color framed sunglasses are light enough to float well in water, while the brown stained version may, or may not completely float, depending on the way that the stain effects them and the varying density of the wood.
