About William Schuman: The Witch Of Endor
William Schuman (1910-1992) was a vital force in American musical life as a composer and administrator, holding posts as President of Juilliard and Lincoln Center, among others. As a composer he built a strong relationship with modern dance pioneer Martha Graham. This release from BMOP/sound collects three of his collaborations with her spanning 20 years. 'Judith, Choreographic Poem' recounts the biblical tale of Judith beheading Holfernes. Night Journey tells the story of Oedipus from Jocasta's perspective. Receiving it's first commercial recording release, The Witch of Endor returns to the stories of the Bible to explore the meeting between a seer and King Saul.
