About the Brand Dare Foods, a family-owned company, operates seven bakery plants in Canada and the United States. The company traces its roots all the way back to 1892, when Charles H. Doerr produced and sold cookies and candies from his small Ontario grocery store. Both the family and company names were changed to Dare in 1945. The company now makes cookies, crackers, and melba toast under the Bremner, Breton, Dare, and Grissol brands. Dare also bakes cookies for Canada's Girl Guides.
