About Veterinary Hematology: Atlas Of Common Domestic And

Product Description The long-awaited Second Edition of Veterinary Hematology: Atlas of Common Domestic and Non-Domestic Species serves as a major update to this essential introductory hematology atlas. In addition to a thorough update of all chapters, the new edition now includes coverage of laboratory animals and pocket pets, two new chapters devoted entirely to avian and exotic animals, and a PC compatible CD providing a wealth of additional hematological images. Now fully updated and revised, the Second Edition is the must-have veterinary hematology atlas for veterinarians, veterinary students, and veterinary technicians alike. Review "A well-written and easily understood hematology reference that will be a useful addition to the library of veterinarians in both private practice and laboratory animal medicine.... An excellent resource." ( Journal of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science, July 2009) "The text remains straightforward and unencumbered and includes descriptions of cell morphology that complement the excellent images. Higher magnification insets for viewing specific features are a useful addition. Common mistakes of misidentification are described, as are familiar artifacts and pseudoinclusions. The text is supplemented by a CD-ROM containing an additional 2,109 images that can be viewed in either search or random mode. Descriptions of the images can be hidden if a reader wants to conduct self-assessments." (American Journal of Veterinary Research, July 2009) "The second edition of Veterinary Hematology: Atlas of Common Domestic and Non-Domestic Species improves on an already excellent atlas by the inclusion of additional species.... This book is of exceptional value and is highly recommended for any clinical or research laboratory that is performing manual hematologic evaluations on veterinary species." (Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, June 2009) "The atlas ... has a very wide audience, encompassing veterinary students and practitioners from multiple disciplines including small and large animal, exotic, and laboratory animal veterinarians. The best features are the high number of excellent quality images, which make it an invaluable resource for teaching and training residents. The second edition includes many improvements.... The number of high quality images make this is a useful teaching tool and excellent resource for practicing veterinarians." (Doody's Reviews, April 2009) From the Back Cover This textbook and reference contains 171 full-color photomicrographs with short morphological descriptions useful to novice and experienced hematologists. It provides "the fundamentals for recognizing the normal and abnormal morphological features of blood cells of the common domestic species, including dogs, cats, horses, ruminants, and llamas." The book also contains: bibliographic references to information on morphological features, additional diseases, and pathophysiological states not described in the book; a glossary of terms; and two appendices that present methods used in the Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Clinical Pathology Laboratory for semiquantitation of some of the morphological abnormalities. They offer "useful guidelines to reproducibly record morphological abnormalities that may be present in a blood smear." About the Author William J.
