Description While this combination of flavors seems a bit out of the ordinary, trust us when we say it just works. In fact, this tea was invented when our Owner was on a “business trip” to Vienna, Austria. After having a really rough day of going to the Vienna Opera House, he stopped by a café for some of their renowned apple tarts with a thick vanilla cream called shlag. Noticing that the locals add the cream to their coffee, he decided to do the same to the mint tea he was drinking. And guess what? It was delicious. The creamy vanilla tempered the sharp mint and the two flavors melded almost perfectly. So, this is our version of this Viennese combination that is rich, sweet, and utterly refreshing. Tasting Notes A smooth and refreshing blend of both green and black teas with fragrant mint leaves and rich bourbon vanilla bean pieces. The vanilla and mint play off one another, with the vanilla providing a smoothness and sweetness that tempers the sharp mint notes. Sourcing Our Vanilla Mint is a combination of real vanilla bean, vibrant mint leaves, Chinese Yunnan black tea and Chinese green gunpowder tea. The vanilla bean we chose for this blend was a bourbon vanilla out of Madagascar, a large island off the coast of Africa. Our spearmint comes from both Oregon and Washington. This region has become popular for their fantastic mint due to the dry desert climate which enhances the flavor and discourages some of the problems humid climates cause the plants. Our Yunnan is from the high mountains of Zhenyuan in the Simao Prefecture, China. These mountains provide a thick mist that condenses the flavors of the tea giving it a medium body with delicate lilac notes and a hint of maltiness. Lastly, our gunpowder tea comes from the Zhejiang Province in China. The leaves are plucked in late summer allowing the tea leaves to mature in flavor and give it its characteristic smoky flavor.
