Product Description This book provides a systematic framework for effectively creating value through engineering in global business networks, and contributes to an increasingly important branch of engineering operations. By updating the traditional disciplines of engineering and operations management and addressing challenges and opportunities in building global network capabilities, this study offers a contemporary guide for developing effective industrial policies to enhance the global competitiveness of engineering sectors, which will be extremely useful to engineering companies and policy-makers. Themes discussed include main trends and driving forces, state-of-the-art knowledge in relevant subject areas, new technologies and leading practice. This timely book will help researchers, managers and students to gain an overall understanding of the pioneering research occurring in this field and it will enable companies to benefit from global engineering networks. Review “Given the ever increasing complexity of the modern globalised economy, High Value Engineering has never been more important in ensuring we meet the future challenges of our hi-tech society. The authors compile the current state-of-the-art thinking in this field, not only providing a valuable reference, but also stimulating debate.” (Chris Hankinson, Chief Engineer, ATKINS) “High Value Engineering is an important concept for companies wanting to maintain their competitiveness in an increasingly globalised economy. This book’s focus on connections between Europe and China provides a reflection on how engineering has now become a borderless activity for multinational businesses. It is recommended reading for anyone who is interested in what international trade really means within the context of modern production industries.” (David Bennett, Professor, Chalmers University of Technology) “This pioneering book demonstrates the economic and social importance of High Value Engineering in different industrial settings. Its expert contributors provide valuable new insights into the challenges of integrating and optimising the process of engineering value-creation through global value chains and networks.” (John Child, Chair of Commerce, University of Birmingham) From the Back Cover This book provides a systematic framework for effectively creating value through engineering in global business networks, and contributes to an increasingly important branch of engineering operations.
