Paul Worley is leaving to go away to school in San Francisco. The only problem is that he wants to drop out. He can't communicate how he feels to his parents because "this has always been the plan." Paul has noticed that his girlfriend Michelle has become more withdrawn from him lately. He tells his friends it is as though they are just "going through the motions." It isn't too much later that he finds out that she's cheating on him. Paul hasn't spoken to his best friend Scott in weeks. With everything else happening in his life, Paul hasn't been able to "hang out" as much as he used to. Scott is currently having a rough time getting over his last girlfriend. What do you when you have no time for the most important person in your life? Yourself. Told mostly in flashbacks, THE TOLL COLLECTOR is a story that looks at self-reliance.
