Product Description In World War II, American soldiers were shocked to discover thousands of German POW's carrying New Testaments. Civilized men serving Hitler? Impossible, or so one would think when juxtaposed against jackbooted Aryan supremacy and the Holocaust. The astonishing truth, however, is that the majority of Germany's population willingly supported Hitler, so powerful the seduction and so profound the blindness. Never before undertaken in a novel, 'The Seduction of Eva Volk' is an inside look at the not-so-simple paradox of a Christian culture proclaiming faith-in-Führer with bullets and bombs. Through the eyes of young Eva, the alluring charm of the Hitler Movement is personified in a lover. Desperately seeking wholeness in her broken world, she is quickly swept away by the thrilling passions of love and war...until she finds herself facing the agonizing consequences of lost sight. "I was blind, but now I see," brings us to the gut-wrenching climax that challenges the boundaries of hope and redemption. Review "Uncomfortable as it is, this novel deserves an honored place in Holocaust literature." Rabbi Howard Abel Hirsch of the Center for Jewish-Christian Dialogue, Colorado Springs, Colorado. "Baker's comprehensive research offers an incredibly accurate picture of village life under National Socialism. The reader may be astonished as historical certainties lose their contour." Johann Voss, author of Black Edelweiss and veteran of the Waffen SS. "Baker's novel offers an engrossing, chilling view from inside one of history's most haunting times, ultimately begging the questions few dare to ask...but should." Dr. Ken Curtis, founder Christian History Institute. From the Author A reader recently wrote me to say that 'it is not the Nazi in others we ought to first fear, but rather the Nazi that lurks within us all.' After several years of research and a series of startling interviews, it became clear to me that the human element within the history of the Third Reich is the untold story that needs to be told. To that end, 'The Seduction of Eva Volk' offers a fictionalized account of a disturbing reality, one that will hopefully engage the reader as powerfully as it has engaged me. About the Author Baker has published eight historical novels and two books of Christian reflections. His first novel, 'A Journey of Souls,' was released in 2000 and re-released in 2004 as 'Crusade of Tears'-- a Christee Award nominee. His meticulously researched work is published variously in the U.S., the U.K., Ukraine, Russia and Germany. Baker's specialty is the discovery of the untold story. For 'The Seduction of Eva Volk,' Baker traveled throughout Germany where he interviewed such notables as Manfred Rommel--son of Fieldmarshal Rommel, and Johann Voss, author of 'Black Edelweiss,' as well as numerous combat veterans and those of the 'home front' with whom he has unique access. Baker writes from his small farm in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where he raises livestock with an interest in natural/organic methods and a passion for humane treatment. He holds a master's degree in divinity from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. See his website for more information. www.cdbaker.com
