About The Scam List

Product Description In this hilarious teen comedy--perfect for readers who love laughs, unexpected twists, and romance--two con artists are about to use their scamming skills for good... Meet the best teen con artist team around. Boone McReedy: high school conman, smooth-talking charmer, and the idiot who just got scammed out of $15,000 of his mom's money. Darby West: ass-kicker, straight-shooter, and Boone's ex-girlfriend. Now, they're teaming up to save the town flea markets and all of its eccentric booth owners, one con at a time. That is if Boone and Darby don't kill each other first. Of course, they're only going to scam people who deserve it. That's a promise. Would they lie to you? As he did in his award-winning debut, DON'T GET CAUGHT, Kurt Dinan brings laughs, twists, and heart to THE SCAM LISTS' funny world of teen con artists, exes, and outrageous five-dollar bets. Review From The San Francisco Book Review:The Scam List: 4 StarsThe son of a con man currently in jail, Boone worries he's becoming just like his dad. When he loses fifteen thousand dollars from his mom's flea market business, he knows the only way to get that kind of cash quick is to open his dad's book full of the best scams. He brings in friends from the flea market and his ex-girlfriend, Darby, to help. Darby, however, has rules. They can only con those who deserve it, like the owners of the competing karate studio, those who take advantage of kids online, and other equally offensive people. When Boone finds out that his mom has decided to sell Garbage Mountain, he knows he has to set up his biggest con yet...but he's gonna need some help. Sarcastic and unapologetically irreverent, Boone is every guy: a little rude, a little self-centered, but deep down he believes he's a good guy. His views on life are brutally honest and his self-examination and enlightenment are to be applauded. The banter is quick and witty and his final con is one of utter genius. Fans of Jeff Strand will enjoy this and should pick up the The Con Artist Dates for more tales of Boone's genius. The School Library Journal Quick on his feet, Boone McReedy comes from a family of con artists. Though his mother is reformed and his father is in jail, there's no doubt Boone is his father's son. His family's flea market is fighting to stay afloat, since the new and flashy competitor across the street is taking their business. He shirks his duty of safely depositing money for the market to meet a girl and gets conned for $15,000 in the process. Facing the fact of having to say goodbye to the business if he can't recover the money, Boone joins forces with his ex-girlfriend and current crush, Darby, to use the best cons his dad came up with to try and win the money back. Boone worries that he's just like his father but in the end, the biggest con he pulls off might just save himself and the family business. Boone's internal dialogue tries too hard to fit the archetypal rabble-rousing teen. Still, the book packs some unseen twists and turns that make it an entertaining and breezy read. Other than clothes, characters' appearances aren't described in the text. VERDICT A fast-paced story that brings the laughs and will keep readers guessing.
