Nisbett is a disease ecologist who works at the interface of biological anthropology (nonhuman primate field studies), community ecology (especially tropical ecology), and zoonotic diseases (in particular, viruses and cross-species transmissions). His career as a teacher and scholar has been focused on transdisciplinary approaches in community ecology and community health. He has taught at several universities in departments of Anthropology, Evolution & Ecology, Human Anatomy, Tropical Studies, and Public Health.
