A new edition of Upton Sinclair's classic muckraking novel about the lives of working class immigrants in turn of the century Chicago working in the meatpacking industry -- "The Jungle." Originally intended to garner public support for the author's socialist political worldview, it instead drew attention to the then unsanitary conditions of the nation's meat packing industry, leading to progressive reforms like the Meat Inspection Act. As Sinclair himself said, "I aimed at the public's heart, and by accident I hit it in the stomach."
