In the opening chapters the author brings before the reader relevant prophecies from Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. Daniel was aware of these writing and they provide us with the prophetic background presupposed in the book of Daniel. They contain the hopes and expectations Daniel had at the outset of his prophetic career. The main section of the book deals with Daniel, especially chapters 7, 8, 9 and 11. The concluding sections on Revelation 13 and 17-18 provide a sequel to what Daniel had written. These present us with the final stage of the Fourth Gentile Kingdom – as summed up in the demonic person, the Beast, whose rise to power is described in Daniel.
