About The Danish Army Of The Napoleonic Wars

Review "Pair this with Volume 1, the infantry and you have an incredible aggregation of information about the Danish Army in the Napoleonic era."Historical Miniatures Gaming Society"The book is extremely well presented and beautifully illustrated with uniforms and Colours and is very comprehensive in its coverage of the units included. It is clearly written by an avid wargamer and the book will most likely appeal to fellow wargamers who are looking for the real detail necessary to produce a colourful and novel wargaming army to impress their colleagues."The Napoleon SeriesThe set of three books will then provide wargamers with an excellent uniform guide that will be perfect for painting […] David Wilson’s books are highly recommended to anyone contemplating raising a Danish wargame army. Miniature Wargames"...a dazzling array of colour plates, illustrating uniforms, saddlecloths, equipment, weapons, and all the supporting elements that kept the guns firing and horse charging. Wargamers and modelers interested in the Napoleonic period will love Wilson’s ‘working document’."Wargames Illustrated Product Description This book was written to provide an in-depth study of the Danish and Norwegian armies of the Napoleonic Wars. The goal was to provide a working document which is as accurate as possible, covering the uniforms of these armies, their weapons and their evolution as well as their colors and a look at their basic tactics. Although this is principally a uniform book, historical background is also provided to place the details in their context. This second volume looks in depth at the regular cavalry and field artillery covering all aspects, organization, uniforms, arms and equipment, in particular cannon, limbers, and wagons, with 54 original full color plates. The fortress and coastal artillery are not forgotten, as with one of the longest coastlines in Europe compared to the size of the country it was more important than in most countries.Unlike the few other works in English this book has been conducted with the assistance of respected Danish historians, as well as Norwegian and German historians. About the Author David Alan Wilson was born of mixed Irish, British and Scots origins and was educated at Greenshaw High School, in Surrey, England, specializing in the History of Art, ancient English literature, printing, technical drawing, sculpture, and painting. He worked in the wine trade, and in April 1974 he signed up for voluntary military service in C Squadron (The Sharpshooters), The Royal Yeomanry. After visiting France several times, he returned there definitely in 1977 to learn French in situ. This is where his passion for history and historical modeling really took off after he was introduced to Teddy Suren of Willie figures who not only taught him about sculpting, but also how to organize research. He became more and more interested in both civil and military history, with special interests in the Ancien Régime – including several years in an association of historical re-enactors, specializing in 18th century animations for historical sites – and Scandinavian history. He retired from full time work in June 2019 to devote more time to historical research and writing.
