We personally tested different thicknesses of sleeping pads to bring you the most comfort and in the smallest/lightest package. A sleeping pad inflated to 1.5 inches in thickness allows for side sleepers to sleep comfortably without feeling the ground beneath. Any smaller and you would be able to feel the ground on your side. Any thicker and it's just added weight for the same comfort. We also tested 5 different inflatable pillows with the same goal in mind, give you the most comfortable pillow that is as small/light as possible. That is how we decided on this pillow. It was the most comfortable and it condenses very small and light weight. In case the inflatable sleeping pad gets cut or damaged in some way we have a repair kit included with this set.
