And schools are a natural source of interesting stories. Be it a large, urban district in a major city or a small rural district in America's heartland, the school district is a reflection of its community. As trainers and coaches of school superintendents, we knew that the stories we’ve heard over the years could collectively provide a great learning opportunity for others. Prospective school superintendents may get a realistic “taste” of the types of issues they may encounter that are not covered in traditional graduate school programs. The lessons woven through these stories may also be of value to the thousands of retired superintendents out there by helping put their careers in perspective. The stories are all true, because you just can't make a lot of this stuff up!
