Taku Honey was established in 2013 with experience in honey-producing businesses, and it exports its proudly made manuka honey to bring happiness and smile to as many people as possible. The only Maori cultivated and branded honey from New Zealand. Taku honey draws inspiration from this historic showcase of Maori cultural values. Maori traditionally used the Manuka tree for its medicinal benefits and land stabilization for hundreds of years, however beekeeping only began when Europeans settled in New Zealand. Our family descends from the Ngat Awa iwi in the Bay of Plenty. Our business network includes Te Whanau a Apanui (East Cape) and Ngati Porou (East Coast) where the majority of our Manuka honey is sourced. Our business effectively promotes Maori well-being and unification - by harnessing under-utilized Maori land plus providing training and employment in small rural communities where Manuka honey is harvested and processed.
