On the way from Kingman to Las Vegas, you may very well miss the long forgotten town of Chloride nestled into the Cerbat Mountain range. I caught the remaining light right after sunset to corroborate the enduring Arizona desert summer dusk against the relic buildings and whacky artwork provided by Chloride’s residents. I made my way back and up Big Wash Road to an antennae dish and radar site for the night. I returned to their rock-mural paintings and revisited the old town during daylight. Then I proceeded across Detrital Valley out Cottonwood Road to drop way down into the Colorado River valley and Lake Mohave. We not only capture some scenery of the peaceful and serene tepid lake, but many fantastic views of the escarpments of the Black Mountains to the east and the slow sloping access road to Cottonwood Cove on the west shore situated between the Newberry and Eldorado mountain ranges. I then proceed to Dolan Springs to photograph the Joshua Tree and higher desert vegetation with the backdrop of the Mount Tipton wilderness area.
