About Seed Needs, Lovage Herb Seeds For Planting

Grow the versatile Lovage herb, from freshly harvested Levisticum officinale seeds. Lovage is an heirloom herb that originated in much of Europe, where it was widely cultivated. The leaves are usually consumed as an herb, by adding them to fresh garden salads. They can also be used to flavor many soups, gumbos, sauces and stews as well. The roots are used as a vegetable and the seeds can even be used as a spice, to flavor meats, casseroles and soups. The plants typically grow to a mature height of roughly 4 to 6 feet tall and are ready to be harvested in about 90 days. Grown as a perennial herb, Lovage will establish a deep root system in it's initial year of growth. It will wilt on the surface with the first killing frost, and then later use it's root system to regrow the following year, when all danger of frost has passed. The leaves are large and green, while it's flowers are small and yellowish green in appearance. The plants will bloom in the late Spring and can last through the summer months as well. Seeds can be collected from the plants when they bolt and dry out.
