Most artists prefer canvas, cradle boards, or illustration boards.*Before getting started, it's always best to have an initial sketch of what you plan to paint laid out on your work surface. This is known as your foundation. *Acrylic paints have the ability to be opaque or transparent. You can achieve different levels of transparency by simply adding a little bit of water at a time.*Applying transparent colors over existing (dry) painted areas on the work surface is called glazing. Glazing is primarily used to lighten, darken, or even change the hue in a painting.*Acrylic paint is not limited to just one type of brush hair. Any brush type can be used. Try different type of brushes as each one may yield different results.*Brushes can easily be cleaned between colors. Blot your brush on a paper towel, wipe off bristles and wash off in cup of water. Next, lay the brush down dry on a paper towel or place it in a storage container with the bristles facing upward.*Dry brushing, sponging, and Sgraffito are just a few of the techniques used to create various effects.*Acrylic paint dry very fast, so only squeezes a small portion of paint out of your tube at a time.*Use a small spray bottle to mist your paint on the palette. This can help to extend your working time.*Always keep your caps tightly secured on your paints after apply paint to your palette or while in storage. Not doing so could result in the loss of an airtight seal and compromise your paint integrity.*Store left over paint in storage jars or plastic wrap.
