This rustic-style Wooden Toy Sword for kids, made from reclaimed barn wood in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, is both a timeless toy and small piece of American history. The wood for these handcrafted toy swords is sourced in part from retired hay and orchard barns that may be slated for demolition or controlled burning, or simply decades of deterioration. By salvaging the wood from these historic structures, local craftsmen are able to earn a livelihood while sharing the beauty of natural aged wood. Since it is handmade, each sword is unique with its own characteristics. The sword you receive may look identical to the product listing photo, or slightly different. Some have small, original dark nail holes. You might see original saw mill marks on the wood as well. Typical woods used in these swords are: Heart Pine (white to tan with darker lines running through it) White Oak (light brown with streaks of black, a tight grained, hard wood) Red Oak (Red-tinted with brown streaks, hard, dense wood) Maple (wavy grain with a rose hue) Walnut (dark brown with straight grain). All are made from hardwoods which make them very durable and long lasting. These toy swords are completely natural, non-toxic, unfinished and chemical-free. They are sturdy and ready for pretend play ... even if that means hours on the battlefield.
