The purses are crafted from Kalimantan Rattan or our Premium "A-Grade" Balinese Ata Straw Rattan Grass, Ata Grass comes from the lush lowland forests in Eastern Bali. This grass is moisture resistant and very durable. Rattan is sourced from Kalimantan in Borneo, all purses are handcrafted in the one village in Eastern Bali.The premium Ata Grass bags are split into four pieces and woven into the beautiful round designs to create these special hand woven bags. The unique skills and techniques for this art have been passed down over many generations of Balinese women to perfect this craft.The process of weaving can take up to a month to finish each bag. After the bags are woven they are dried under the sun for several days and then smoked over a coconut husk fire to obtain their golden color. This process leaves behind a smoky scent which most people find pleasant. If you prefer to remove the scent, this is done by spraying with Febreze and leaving the bag in the fresh air for a day or two.
