CarmelPatron of CarmelitesMount Carmel is located about twnety miles fromNazareth and was used as a place of gatheringbefore a vision of the Blessed Virgin appeared in1251. It had become a place of Marian devotion whereprayers were said in honor of the Blessed Virgin. By thetwelfth century, the Order of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel wasfounded and a church was built on the ascent of themountain to honor her. This place of honor remains todaya spiritual center for all religious vocations following theexample of our Lady.The tradition of our Lady of Mount Carmel tells usthat St. Simon Stock, a Carmelite friar, was in Aylesford,England, praying to the Blessed Virgin when she appeared tohim.
