About Revelation: An Oratorio For Soloists, Mixed
“REVELATION” An Oratorio for Soloists, Mixed Voices, Percussion, Brasses and Pipe Organ by An-lun Huang, Op. 54 A commission by the Alliance Bible Seminary of Hong Kong, the oratorio, Revelation, was composed during the period from the Christmas Eve of 1997 to the Easter Sunday of the following year, 1998. Led by Dr.Angela Tam, the whole production was for the celebration of the Centenary of the Alliance Bible seminary of Hong Kong in 1999. The world premiere has been performed by its join choir and the Hong Kong City Brass under the baton of the composer himself, An-lun Huang. It was so successful that another performance, the Toronto Oratorio Choir under the baton of Maestro Tak-ng Lai,. was produced in Canada in the following year, 2000. Singing in Chinese, Maestro Lai also conducted this CD, performed by the State Academic Yurlov Russian A Cappella Chorus and the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra of Moscow on the June of 2002. The third oratorio in large form by An-lun Huang, the composer showed the combination of the Chinese rich culture and the Western musical tradition. With the assistance of Rev.Tommy Wong, all of the texts were selected from the book of Revelation.
