Whatever your interests―wildlife, ecology, geology, history, or just the joy of walking through beautiful country―you couldn’t ask for a better companion than this splendid book by veteran park rangers and naturalists Carol Shively and Roger Anderson.” --–Paul Schullery, Wallace Stegner Award-winning author of Mountain Time and Searching for Yellowstone “In many years experience dealing with hundreds of journalists and authors from around the world, I have met none with a finer gift for sharing the joys of Yellowstone’s trails than Carol Shively and Roger Anderson. This book is my go-to reference for the park’s many wonderful day hikes, and it should be yours too.” --–Marsha Karle, artist and former Chief of Public Affairs, Yellowstone National Park “Adventurers who are keen to fully experience Yellowstone National Park will treasure this book. Not only do Carol and Roger inform hikers with science, they also inspire with story, guiding visitors deeper into the purpose of the park―to slow down and truly revere and marvel at the sublime wonders of the world’s first national park.” --–Karen Wildung Reinhart, Curator, Yellowstone Gateway Museum; former Park Ranger, Yellowstone National Park; and author of Yellowstone's Rebirth by Fire: Rising from the Ashes of the 1988 Wildfires About the Author Roger and Carol were career rangers with the National Park Service, serving in five national parks across the country, with more than 40 years of combined service in Yellowstone. Their work was primarily in visitor education and park management, sharing these treasured places with people from all over the world. Roger began his career as a field ranger at Old Faithful and went on to serve as Yellowstone’s Chief of Cultural Resources and editor of the park’s journal, Yellowstone Science. His final assignment was as the Superintendent of an NPS Training Center, developing the next generation of employees to preserve the parks. Carol directed the ranger-led program in the park’s Lake District before working for the NPS’s Washington DC Headquarters developing a nationwide coaching and mentoring program for rangers specializing in Resource Education. In her final assignment, she was the National Coordinator for the NPS Civil War to Civil Rights Commemoration. They have now retired and live near Yellowstone. Perhaps you’ll see them on the trail!
