When it comes to playing the piano, it's usually "both hands on deck." Sometimes, though, because of injury or by choice, performers have just one hand to work with. Pianist Adrienne Wiley has made a study of the performance and teaching of music for piano, one hand, and on this disc she performs a range of pieces from this literature. Some are well known, such as Brahms' masterful transcription of J. S. Bach's Chaconne for Solo Violin. Others, though written primarily as teaching pieces, are right at home on the concert stage. The multimedia portion of this Enhanced CD includes a bibliography and articles by Dr. Wiley on mastering and teaching piano with one hand. An excellent disc for piano teacher and aficionado alike.
