2014 two CD collection that for the most part explores British film's preparations for the extraordinary decade ahead; music from early films by Richard Lester (IT'S TRAD DAD) and those of such young contemporaries as Ken Russell (POP GOES THE EASEL), Michael Winner (PLAY IT COOL) and Joan Littlewood (SPARROWS CAN'T SING). These pieces along with Anthony Newley's British Pop star gets drafted comedy, IDOL ON PARADE, and two very different films that are the work of the Ealing veteran Basil Dearden, VICTIM, where then matinee idol Dirk Bogarde put his career on the line to take the lid off homosexual London and a novel jazz version of OTHELLO, starring a certain Patrick McGoohan, as an Iagoesque drummer, a tough little film with rare musical contributions by Dave Brubeck, Charles Mingus and Johnny Dankworth.
