Michelangelo is widely recognized as one of the greatest artist of all time. His best known works are the statue of David, Pieta & the historic fresco depicting the book of Genesis in the sistine chapel. The Pieta sculpture replicated by Parastone, is an exact replica of the original masterpiece. The sculpture depicts the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Mary after he was crucified. It was commissioned as a funeral monument for the french Cardinal, Jean de Bilheres, who was a representative in Rome. Michelangelo had a different interpretation of Pieta compared to previous artists. He sculpted a young and beautiful Mary rather than an older woman, and Jesus with a serene face instead of signs of death.
