This is a joyous collection of seventeen original piano rags by ragtime composer, Gregory Luce. These various piano solo pieces are traditional in nature ranging from the Midwest style of Scott Joplin to the bawdier east coast style of Eubie Blake. The title piece, "Party at Joplin's" is a tribute to the three great composers of ragtime, Scott Joplin, Joseph Lamb, and James Scott. While traditional in style, Luce brings his own voice to his music, occasionally departing from some of the stricter formatics of Joplin's era. Yet there is no question that his compositions are laced with the traditional ragtime sound, which should please piano rag purists everywhere. "Valerie's Novelty Shop," "Sea Mist Rag," "Hollywood Syncopations," and "Tiger Lily Rag" are some of the highlights of this unique collection.
