Its high-quality, 40-second anti-skip protection guards against listening interruptions during active use. The SL-SW890 runs on two AA batteries (not supplied), from which it derives 20 hours of continuous playback with anti-skip protection off and 25 hours with protection on. For customized listening, the SL-SW890 permits 24-track programming. The unit offers a bass-boost feature (S-XBS), which emphasizes low frequencies in the headphones or in any devices connected from the headphone jack. Use the player's hold switch to prevent unintended (and possibly battery-wasting) changes of state, such as starting playback from a stopped state when the player is jostled inside a backpack or purse. Resume lets you continue playback from the last-played point, and random play shuffles the track sequence for more surprising, radio-like listening. The headphone jack and DC power input both come with handy rubber seals to keep dirt out when the ports are not in use.
