About the Artist Aiko Shimada is a Seattle-based guitarist/singer/songwriter, and frequently performs with her five-piece band. She came to the US when she was 18 to study English, and began her music career while doing graduate work at the University of Oregon. She has released 3 CDs under her own label, Bera Records, and two CDs under Japanese and New York labels. Her latest CD "Blue Marble," is on John Zorn's Tzadik label. Parents' Choice Award winner Elizabeth Falconer has played the koto since 1979, and after 12 years of residency in Japan moved back to the states to perform, teach, and compose for koto. She has collaborated with a wide variety of artists and recorded on a number of labels. She started Koto World in 2000 to promote her musical adventures with koto, which include her unique storytelling recordings with koto accompaniment. This is Aiko and Elizabeth's first collaboration, and they hope that you the listener experiences at least a part of the nurturing, calming effect that they felt as they played the music.
