Grow this unique and very attractive plant and attract hummingbirds and bees to your garden. Cerinthe major purpurascens, or commonly called Honeywort, grows quickly and produces an abundance of nodding, tubular, purple flowers on stems that gracefully arch. Honeywort makes an excellent container plant as it reaches 18 inches in height and about the same in width, and it gracefully spills over the sides of the container creating a lovely specimen for a back patio or porch. Cerinthe performs well in full sun or partial shade, and it prefers rich, moist soil to grow in. Start the seed indoors in the early spring. Cover the seed with 1/8 of soil, and keep the seed moist. The seed germinates at 68F within 21 days.
