Eragrostis elliotii is commonly called Blue Love Grass or Blue Eros. It is native to the United States and it is a perennial that provides visual appeal all through the winter months. The blades are slightly weeping and flow beautifully in the breezes. This clumping ornamental has narrow blue-green foliage and in the summer produces creamy colored plumes that mature to a tan color by fall. Blue Love Grass is drought tolerant and low maintenance and does well in infertile soils. Place the plant in full sun to partial shade. Start the seed indoors 4 – 6 weeks before the end of frost season, or directly sow seed outdoors after frosts have passed. Press the seed into the soil but do not cover it. Germination is usually in 21 days with temperature ranging from 68 – 72F.
