Queen of Heaven is a title given to the Virgin Mary by the Catholic Church and Many Christian denominations such as Eastern Orthodox and Anglican. The title was given on the First Council of Ephesus in the 5th century. The Blessed Virgin was pronounced Theotokos, which is Latin for the Mother of God. Catholic teaching on this subject is expressed in the papal encyclical Ad Caeli Reginam, by Pope Pius XII. It states She is Queen of Heaven because her son, Jesus Christ is the King of Israel and Heavenly King of the universe. This title has long standing tradition and they include prayers, devotional literature and Celebration of the Coronation of Mary, or May Crowning.
